Welcome back! Happy New Year! The kids were very excited about seeing each other after the holidays! They were so cute today! It was like family reunion time!
We also welcomed a new student to our class today- Audrey Peterka. The kids were very excited about having a new student and really tried to make Audrey feel very welcome to her new school.
We are transitioning back into first grade school work, by trying to “step-it-up” and look more like the second graders that we are becoming! This means we are lengthening the amount of our writing when we write and fine-tuning our handwriting so that it is neat and legible. As we enter the second half of the year we also need to work on correct letter formation in terms of how we write letters in our words and no more letter reversals (especially b’s and d’s). Correct capitalization and punctuation usage is very important in our writing too. I told the kids today, that this time of the year, I really expect work that a 2nd grade teacher would be looking for from them. I know they can do it!
This week we will not have a written homework packet. We will resume that next week. We will still have a Mad Minute Math Quiz on Thursday and a Spelling Test on Friday. I have included a new 3rd Quarter Reading Log to log in their reading time too. A 3rd Quarter Extension Homework Sheet is also in their Blue Folder.
The Six Flags Reading Incentive Program information went home today as well. This is an easy way for your child to receive a free Six Flags Ticket just by reading. All the information is on the form. The form will need to be completed and signed no later than February 27th. Six Flags is very strict about their deadline. The tickets will then be emailed to me and I will send a printed ticket home with your child later on this spring. It’s really simple and something that every student should be able to easily earn since they are already reading nightly.
Here’s to an amazing week and a wonderful 2nd half of the year!
