This week, we are finishing up the touches on our “America the Beautiful” Patriotic Themed Garden for our classroom garden. You will get to see the final garden when you come to Evening in the Garden next Tuesday, May 2nd. We’ve made flags and will be planting our flowers tomorrow. You will love it! If you’ve never been to Evening in the Garden at Ford, you are in for such a treat! It is a wonderful night for the whole family!
We also began some very special “Friendship Books” this week. The students are writing letters daily to classmates. Each day, we write about two friends. Each student will eventually have a compiled book with letters about themselves from each of their classmates. I’ve been making these special treasured books for the past 8-9 years and the kids love them. There is nothing sweeter than reading heartfelt letters all about you from your classmates who really are like your family for that one special year. I know that your child will thoroughly love their books. I can’t wait til they are all completed.
Also, I want to emphasize how wonderful Economics Day is for first grade! We do a huge Economics Unit and our big finale is Economics Day which is Friday, May 19th! Ask any Ford student what their favorite first grade memory is and hands down they will tell you Economics Day! They ALL love it! The students will start earning money prior to Economics Day for good behavior and work completion and things like that. They will use this play money to spend at different stores that day. I want to stress to you that even if you cannot physically be there to help, that sending in donations will be such a HUGE help to all of first grade! Please feel free to do one or the other or both! I cannot wait! It’s just so much fun for the kids!
This week is the last week for a written homework packet and for spelling tests for the year. Please do continue all the hard work on studying math facts for Mad Minute Math and continue to read and sign their nightly reading logs!
Thanks bunches for all you do! Have a great rest of the week! See you next Tuesday at Evening in the Garden!
