It has been a wonderful week this week. The kids have been working so hard! I was so proud of how well they did on their Continents and Oceans Test yesterday. We practiced everyday and they really did well! Also, great job on Homework and Mad Minute Math. We had a lot of great work in writing and in phonics lessons this week. I am seeing a great carry-over into their reading and writing! Love it!
The math that we did this week was quite a good bit. We finished place value to 120 and really worked on using a 120 Chart to locate missing numbers. They did very well. The 120 Chart homework puzzle went along with a lot of the math this week.
I also introduced time to the hour and half hour. We watched the Brain Pop Junior videos on parts of a clock, telling time to the hour, and telling time to the half hour as our introduction to this math skill. We talked a lot about how telling time is a valuable life skill that they will use for the rest of their lives. I was blown away at how well they picked up reading the analog/face clocks. I knew that they would do really well with telling time to the hour, but I was AMAZED at how quick they were able to read clocks showing the half hour! This can be very, very, tricky and they just picked it up like no big deal! I was so excited! We
do not assess them for a grade on the report card for this skill, but it is standard that we introduce. We will continue to work on it because it is so necessary in our day-to-day lives. Our main focus is the hour and half hour, but it never hurts to explain to the minute as well.
When we get back from the Fall Break, I will be sending home your child's Fall Conference Schedule. As a school, we the teachers, met to put all our sibling conferences back-to-back for your convenience. I had 11 out of 24 students with siblings to coordinate with other teachers to make this happen. If you do have more than one child at Ford, you know how nice it is to have them all on the same day. Many years ago, I was in the same boat with my own kids. Anyway, this letter will go home with your child's date and time. At your child's conference we will discuss your child's progress for the year thus far (so many great things to share) and you will receive your child's report card at his/her conference. I know that you will be super proud of all they are doing at school! I love sharing this with you. I am asking that you get the confirmation letter back to me ASAP (the letter says Friday of that week, but before that is IDEAL! I have to turn in my confirmed schedule to the office as soon as I can.
I want to wish you all a wonderful, Fall Break! I hope you create lots of fun memories and take lots of precious pictures! The kids were all very excited about next week being out of school. Hopefully, we can all get some good rest as well.
Thanks so much for all you do and thanks for sharing your kiddos with me. I love this group and my days with them are always pretty special and definitely fun! I leave school everyday feeling blessed!
***One last thing, your child's October Calendar is in his/her Blue Folder today!
