Our first week is always a blast and this past week was no exception! I loved getting to know my new class. We spent time getting to know each other through the sharing of our “Me Bags”. We also familiarized ourselves with Ford (the building itself, school expectations, the teachers and staff, etc.). We practiced how we do things in first grade, learned our classroom rules, and just began getting into a really good 1st grade routine. So this week we should be able to hit the ground running!
Thank you so much for getting your child’s supplies to school so quickly. We organized our desks on day one. Having a desk and not a space at a big table is a big first grade responsibility and I know they will love having their own space.
Last Wednesday, your child began bringing home their Blue Communication Folder. This is our way for us to daily communicate between school and home. You will find a “Bragging Behavior” Sheet that goes for two weeks at a time. I will collect these when the two weeks are up and replace it with a new one that Monday. Beginning on Monday, August 6, you will have a Reading Log to record your child’s daily reading time. I placed an August Calendar in the back cover of the Blue Folder on Friday. In this folder, you will find important papers, graded papers, calendars, and homework for the week (more information to come on homework), etc. This is also the folder that all written notes to me should be placed especially any afternoon dismissal changes. You’ll always want to make sure your child knows that you’ve placed a note in there for me. They will get the hang of this Blue Folder in no time! This becomes a big first grade responsibility for them.
I hope to see you all at Open House this Thursday, August 9th from 6-7:45pm. There are two sessions to accommodate your possibly needing to attend different classrooms for your children at Ford. That night we will go over a lot of important information about my classroom and first grade as a whole.
Here’s to a wonderful first “full” week of first grade! See you soon!
